These are the buses the N.Y.C. Transit Authority ran in the 50's when most of us here at the Candy Store were growing up. No Air Conditioning. We used to by a weekly pass at school for fifty cents. Each week they changed the color of the pass so you couldn't use the same pass the following week. We even used the passes after school to go to Frdham Road or anywhere else we wanted to go. The driver never knew if you were coming home from school late.

The rear exit door was opend by stepping down on the steps. Now you tell me the rear was an exit door. That how we boarded a crowded bus. I lived close enough to walk to school.

I visited with Ralphie in the Fordham hospital with his class mates from 178th and Bathgate, they were getting on the bus at Dwitt Clinton, He fell trying to get on the bus at the back door his leg went under in front of the wheel and it ran over him.. Ralph was teaching me to lift weights( Body building) befor that. They were the supers of the building on the corner up from St. Joe's.
